We might be considered ‘nerds’ at Whiskybase, the people behind Archives. But we are also normal people just like you. Whisky is our passion and our business allows us to pursue this. Our singular goal is to deliver a carefully curated window into the world of whiskies one cask at a time.
At Whiskybase we know that taste is highly personal and subjective. No one person is the same. That is why we work together as a team to select whiskies of exceptional quality that cater to different palates.
The world of whisky is growing rapidly. Every distillery is unique and every cask a different experience of that distillery. At Whiskybase, we are constantly evaluating casks in order to select and bottle a distinctive range of whiskies for people to enjoy and collect.
The team behind Whiskybase.com, the world’s largest online community of whisky enthusiasts, introduced the first bottle of Archives in 2011. Over the years we have continued to carefully select casks with the highest potential and then left them alone to develop into experiences that need to be shared.
Only when the time is right and the whisky ready to drink, do we bottle the cask. Always bottled at cask strength without dilution or added coloring or flavors.
We have bottled over 170 unique casks to date from over 55 distilleries.
And while the score of our whiskies remains quite high from experts in the field, we also realize how important the feedback is from whisky enthusiasts just like yourself.
The world of whisky is complex, and every whisky is different. And let’s face it, taste is a very personal thing. That is why we go to great lengths in order to select a range of casks that appeal to different flavor preferences. To deliver the best whiskies of the world to you at the perfect moment.
Enjoy a whisky from the Archives range and rest assured that we have many more distinctive casks from other years and distilleries maturing and waiting for the perfect moment to be bottled.
Every cask of whisky is unique in its own way however obvious or subtle. An ex-Bourbon hogshead, a refill sherry cask, a first fill sherry butt. Perhaps the cask was stored in a different manner than most over the years or the methods of distillation changed when a distillery was sold or maintenance was performed.
Whatever the case may be, the nuanced story of a cask’s creation and aging is integral to the Archives experience. Some distilleries have even fallen out of favour while others have been mistakenly overlooked as tastes change. At Whiskybase we might not pick a cask just because it is good, we select casks because there is a story to tell. A perfect example of distillery character or a unique flavour profile not to be found in the distilleries standard releases.
We attempt to anticipate changing contemporary tastes by buying distinctive whiskies. We feel you should try them as they are unique in their own way.
